Airports are the worst. These are the things I remember most: being in Dallas, still drunk, on a payphone calling my best friend to tell her I was leaving my partner. Waking up at 4am, in the dark, in the rain, watching Sweden disappear away from me forever, all forests and lakes, my family on the tarmac waving. Arriving in London when I was 17 with no one to meet me and nowhere to go. Making out...

We’re getting early practice for our widow cruises, going out for puzzles & coffees & making biscuits.
Thanksgiving on the Upper West Side, champagne on the fire escape last night, some kind of magic unagi, sometimes I like America so much.
Sleeping in a really beautiful hotel in Brooklyn. At Pearson a woman passed out while waiting for immigration. She laid on the ground with an oxygen mask over her face and could not get up. The immigration officer asked me what appealed to me about living in Canada and I wanted to say “free abortions” so much but immigration officers are the last people you need to hate you.
To a fire in the park, to New York.
Low resolution proxy files, portfolio diversification, breaking into my own house, a Contax on its way to me, maybe sleeping in a box, in an airplane, right now!!!!
This is Helen Keller with her pit bull. Meanwhile, Oshawa tricked this man’s pit bull away from him due to the pit bull ban and now they want to kill it. Oshawa killed 9 pit bulls just for being pit bulls last year, which makes Oshawa city employees far more dangerous to pit bulls than pit bulls are to the people of Oshawa and even all the people in Canada. This is fucked.
Breed bans are...
Q. How does Toronto compare to the rest of North America in terms of whiteness?
A. Well, Toronto, right up until Rob Ford got elected, was our paradise. Now I don’t even know what to say about it. I’m so bummed about that.
- Christian Lander, interviewed by Torontoist
Last Friday the fog was so thick I could not even see the skyscrapers in the city from the harbourfont, even though it is only maybe one kilometer way. The air was cold like by the ocean, like in Monterey, like Huntington Beach in December, at 5am, and even the CN Tower had disappeared.
My contract was extended until February. Thank you, television, for providing me with pretty much everything I...
Look, Joana organized this show. I wish I could go.
I wish you were here.
More Smothered in Hugs, ‘AIDS: Words from the Front’ is the best, but probably because it’s just like his novels anyway. His dialogue, there’s nothing better in the world. One my top three reasons for going back in time would be the ability to read the George Miles cycle again for the first time. Wells Tower, where is your novel, I’m waiting so hard.
There is a clump of cormorants swimming in a huddle on the lake, tight together, close to the docks. There are hundreds of them, all black, looking like an oil spill, a shadow, a mouth. Every few minutes they dive under the water all at once, synchronized, and disappear. The cormorants still on the spit and the island come over in a stream and make the oil spill bigger and they all disappear...

The photograph of the girl with the fish was part of an exhibit I saw at the Hayward a long time ago and the print is so good, it’s insane. I think maybe that was the day I was sitting by South Bank and saw what looked like a bunch of cult members on top of a bridge and one of them came to ask me for a cigarette, robe flowing, acting like he was doing me a favour and...
Last week I took the last mariner of the season to the island and in the morning I ride to the ferry in the dark with a thin line of light over the spit and miles of clouds swimming right on top of the water horizon, looking like mountains across the lake. Motherless Brooklyn, it’s so good, financial planning, cutting 12 years off my mortgage, 12 years! it feels like there should be a party...
