There is someone new practicing or maybe recording in the lofts next to my house and I sit in the backyard and listen to the guitarist play his lines over and over and over. The sound bounces off the wall and seems like it’s right in front of me. My  favourite mystery band practices in the warehouse by the stockyards on Fridays and I have no idea who they are, I can’t figure out which...

I laid in the sand all morning reading a book about some murders, a book whose first blurb is “4 out of 4 stars - People”, while an old European man did the breaststroke and his old European wife watched him from under a beach umbrella. He was wearing high cut black swimming briefs. French cut. Like women wore in the 1980s, when French cut meant something spectacular. The book is good,...

I rowed a boat on a lake and went to the summerhouse we used to have but sold and got sad looking at it and bought some Orrefors Intermezzo glasses because my grandmother used to buy the series for me. I threw a line into the water again and again and again. I looked at hundreds of photographs of my family and most of the people in the photographs were dead and most are buried in Finland. I looked...
